Dave, as a Liberal Democrat and strong Obama supporter, I nevertheless agree with you about the economy. Now, if we can find agreement, why can’t the politicians?
It was interesting that you played that clip and find it amazing that people are wasting time talking about Obama like that – we have bigger issues to worry about!
Oh and just to add while I don’t post my political views anywhere anymore because politics in this country is sad and no longer fun, this recession is bad and we need a different approach – not an Obama attack because this was started by Bush, we need an approach that will jump start the economy, I would like to see children and the elderly covered by healthcare but I just don’t see it right now, Let’s fix the economy then we will have the money to do these things if that is what people want. It will be more than 0 years before commercial construction and residential construction recover due to over supply – that means millions will not work in this industry for many years. I saw an economist (he was a democrat from boston but one of the best) speak today at a conference and he predicted this will be a jobless recovery starting in 2010 and that some sectors of the economy are not recoverable. it was not a pretty picture. US Debt is so high that we may have to print money. The only positive sign he had was that he felt we have a competent Fed that could manage inflationary indicators early and avoid collapse of the dollar.I wish ALL spending would be halted until we get a handle on the economy. Last political diatribe out of me until 2010.I just hope a viable Libertarian Party emerges out of this.
I am a facebook Repulican! I even took great offense to you Cheney comments and did not post a response. Republicans are not the only ones unhappy with Obama – a few more months and he will be in a tough spot politically. I really hate him but don’t comment much and not on facebook or anywhere else! I can only wish on him what happened to Bush and Clinton. My brother is a bit more active on that front and he is also your friend I think! I love Weeds never miss it.
You know, sooner or later your Republican FB Friend is going to “un-Friend” you. Then, it’ll all be over—unless YOU do the un-Friending first, of course…
The right wing is positively obsessed with the emergency room fallacy. In addition to what you said, emergency rooms provide the most expensive treatment there is, which everyone else ends up paying for—it would be MUCH cheaper to pay for real healthcare than emergency room treatment.
But the idea that emergency rooms have to treat everyone is a commonly believed myth that the rightwing is gleefully promoting. ERs just have to stabilse patients before transferring them to a public or charity hospital. In the case of minor illness or injury, that’s quick and easy; in the case of a serious condition, it may be more involved, but private hospitals constantly dump patients on public and charity hospitals.
Yes, “Little Boxes” is the theme to “Weeds” performed by many people. The version you played is by Malvina Reynolds, who wrote the song.
