  1. I totally agree with you on the kissing on private property but what bothers is what happens after. There was no reason they needed several security people to handle this. They should have been told to leave and it should have ended there.

    Great show as usual!

  2. Wow-forty bucks for a charger? That is steep! I buy all my electronic accessory stuff off of ebay stores and other online places. Usually way cheaper than retail joints.

  3. I completely agree with you about the kissing. What most Americans don’t remember is that the First Amendment doesn’t apply on private property: It deals only with ensuring that the federal and state governments protect free speech. There’s no requirement that private organisations allow free speech on their property, and this ought to be obvious: Churches, for example can and do forbid dissenting speech in their buildings.

It gets complicated by things like when private organisations accept taxpayer money. But this clearly doesn’t apply to this case.

The real issue here, it seems to me, is why the hell did Salt Lake City sell this plaza to the Mormons in the first place? The public clearly considers this public property—probably in part because it used to be—and the Mormons have no intention of allowing the same freedoms that ordinary people would enjoy if it was still public property.

Now, if Salt Lake City forbade same-sex kissing on public property, it would be a completely different situation.
